Young, Famous and African Cast Members
Bringing relationship dramas whilst going the reality route for their career to fulfill their ambition in the new Netflix series Young, Famous and African are various famous media personalities from the African continent in different walks of their life and different points in career and relationships.
The cast members of the show include Khanyi Mbau, Diamond Platnumz, Annie Macaulay- Idibia, 2Baba, Zari Hassan, Nadia Nakai, Naked DJ, Andile Ncube, Kayleigh Schwark, and Swanky Jerry.
Khanyi Mbau (@mbaureloaded) - one of the most entertaining cast members of the reality show is essentially an entertainment royalty hailing from South Africa. Raised in Soweto, she gained prominence when she played Mbali in 2004 in the SABC 1 soap opera Mzansi and SABC 1's mini-series After Nine.
Since 2018, she has also taken up hosting and has done the SABC 3 entertainment show The Scoop, The Big Secret on BET Africa. She also stars in Mzansi Magic's Abomama as Tshidi.
The television personality commands attention everywhere she goes and attracts everyone in the room with her attitude. Quite outspoken herself, she has no problem with how she is labeled and has proudly stated that her friends call her the OG, the original gold digger.
She is very bold and daringly unapologetic about what she wants and what she wants in a man.
Pride and one of the biggest stars of Tanzania Diamond Platnumz (@diamondplatnumz) is a musician who has touched many souls with his music as is evidenced by his massive fan-following and Hollywoodesque fame.
He is the first sub-Saharan African artist to earn over 1 billion YouTube views and has received three BET Award nominations.
His romantic life could be thought of as a little tumultuous given how rumors of infidelity never distance from him and how he has a playboy image. But nothing shakes him and speaking confidently of his romantic life, he says that he thinks he's too romantic, and the way he treats his lady it’s as if she is his wife.
He co-parents two children with his ex-wife Zari Hassan and returns to Johannesburg to be closer to his family.
Annie Macaulay-Idibia (@annieidibia1) is a model, actress, and presenter from Nigeria. Married to musician 2Baba, another Young, Famous and African cast member, the couple is parents to two children. In 2009, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Best of Nollywood Awards.
Already a star in her home country Nigeria, she is ambitious and seeking to expand her reach across the continent through the reality show.
But she places equal, if not more, importance in her family as we see in the show when she deals with issues with her husband and tackles her daughter’s health issues, and sacrifices her time to invest in her kids’ careers.
Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia
Singer, songwriter, record producer Innocent '2Baba' Idibia (@official2baba) is a household name in Nigeria. The star though lives a larger-than-life persona seems to be grounded what with him being a philanthropist and humanitarian.
He rebranded to 2Baba in 2014 from the previous stage name 2face Idibia. In 2015, 2Baba became the first winner of MTV Europe, Best African Act Award.
The superstar looks like he has everything but his lifestyle has cost him peace and harmony in marriage with Annie, another reality show cast.
Zari the Boss Lady
Girlboss Zarinah Hassan (@zarithebosslady) is a Ugandan businesswoman and musician. She co-founded Brooklyn City College with her late husband Ivan Semwanga, of which she is an heir and CEO.
Though very business savvy, she doesn't seem to bring her skills in maintaining good relations with others as she is always in the middle of drama with frequent disagreements with other cast members.
Her messy public image has also been contributed to by a very public breakup and cheating scandal with her ex-husband Diamond Platnumz, another cast of the show, with whom she shares two children.
Naked DJ, whose real name is Quinton Mansina (@naked_dj), is a South African radio personality and club DJ. People might also recognize him from his appearances in the Real Housewives of Johannesburg when he was married to Naledi Willers.
He is now dating fellow cast member Kayleigh Schwar, who is 13 years younger. Their relationship as is seen on the show is quite rocky.
South African-born Nadia Nakai (@nadianakai) is a Zimbabwean rapper. Her television debut was on the e.tv hip hop show Shiz Niz where she won the Mixtape 101 competition. Since then, she's gone on to produce her own music and front several TV shows.
In 2019, she released Nadia Naked, her debut album. She was recently nominated for Artist of the Decade at the 2021 South African Hip Hop Awards.
Jeremiah Ogbodo aka Swanky Jerry (@swankyjerry) is a celebrity fashion stylist who has dressed some of the biggest African stars, including Tonto Dikeh, D'banj, Ice Prince, M.I, Tu Face, Juliet Ibrahim, and Davido.
His brand Swanky Signatures Styling first brought him fame in the fashion world. He was named Fashion Stylist of the Year at the Lagos Fashion Awards in 2014 and he also made it to Forbes Africa's 30 under 30 lists in 2020.
He is also hoping to do something more for his career by appearing on the show like his best friend and another cast member Annie Macaulay-Idibia.
Andile Ncube (@andilencube) is a South African actor and media personality who is best known for hosting the Mzansi Friday night music show LIVE.
He entered the television industry in 2003 and since then, has gotten around to hosting several shows, including The X Factor South Africa and The Search: E! Host South Africa.
He looks to be on the brink of breaking the bro-code as while being friends with Diamond, he gets closer to his ex-wife Zari.
South African Kayleigh Schwark (@kayleigh_schwark) is a fitness freak and a footballer who is focused on creating a new life with her 40-year-old beau Naked DJ.
She is often seeking relationship advice from Nadia and Khanyi as she tries to fix her relationship with her boyfriend.
