The 36-year-old actress was born on 3 June 1987 to her parents, Michael Keegan and Jackie Turner. Her maternal great-grandmother was a Gibraltarian who married a British soldier stationed in Gibraltar, and she also has distant Italian heritage via her seven-times great-grandfather, who emigrated from Genoa to Gibraltar. Furthermore, he also possesses Irish heritage from her father's side.
Talking about Michelle Keegan's acting career, she was offered the role of Tina McIntyre on Coronation Street in late 2007, after only her second audition, and accepted the role, beating out over 900 other people who auditioned.
