Tim Donaghy’s Net Worth: How Much Did the Former NBA Referee Make Betting/Gambling in 2007? Netflix Update!

Tim Donaghy, the former NBA referee, has an estimated net worth of $3 million in 2022. It is reported that he made around $30,000 during his betting/gambling days. As shown in the Netflix documentary, Tim now works in the real estate business and is happy with his life. However, he previously spent 15 months in jail after FBI agents found him guilty of picking on the game as a referee.

The sports documentary series Untold on Netflix has recently released a new documentary titled Operation Flagrant Foul that highlights the 2007 NBA Betting Scandal, which involved allegations that several NBA referees intentionally sided with particular outcomes for personal gain. Despite these accusations, however, only Tim Donaghy was ultimately found guilty, and the way in which this all happened was no less questionable.

Timothy "Tim" Donaghy, who bet on the games he officiated, made news in 2007 for violating every rule and scandal in sports. That's why he not only refuted the accusations of fixing but also stated that the Association frequently told officials to manipulate results in order to extend the season. Of course, the NBA has denied this.

Since the release of the show, many viewers have been wanting to know more about Tim Donaghy. Despite the fact that the incident occurred more than 15 years ago, viewers of the Netflix show want to know about his present net worth. Well, let's find it out.

Tim Donaghy Has an Estimated Net Worth of $3 Million: How Much Did the NBA Referee Make Betting/Gambling?

As of now, Tim Donaghy has an estimated net worth of $3 million. It appears as though the former NBA ref is currently doing quite well for himself, especially in light of the fact that he was able to rise above the incident by accepting his history.

In addition to writing a biography titled Blowing the Whistle, he also worked at a facility for problem gamblers and offered sports picks on his now-defunct website RefPicks. He really won $1.3 million after suing the publisher of his book in 2012 for failing to pay him, and as a result, he eventually began investing in real estate and basically being a landlord.

Tim Donaghy, who had a father who was a collegiate basketball referee and grew up in the sports-mad Delaware County of Pennsylvania, understood from a young age that he wanted to join this profession. Thus, he put in a lot of effort and even earned a Bachelor of Science in sales and marketing from Villanova University before getting a job as a basketball official for a nearby high school.

He actually spent close to five years here developing his abilities via extensive first-hand experience, before moving on to play in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for a total of seven seasons.

Tim Donaghy joined the NBA in 1994 and officiated 772 regular-season games as well as 20 playoff games before officially resigning in early July 2007 after information about his criminal activity became public. The official was actually addicted to gambling and couldn't stop, so he had been playing poker and betting on the golf course long before the renowned organization even hired him.

In the Netflix documentary, he says that he never needed those gambling money as he was making $400,000 a year. However, he eventually jumped the line and started picking on games.

While it's unclear how much money Tim made from his initial wagers, in 2006 he started working with James Battista and Thomas "Tommy" Martino and started receiving $2,000 for each successful choice. However, some sources do indicate that his predictions were so accurate that his cut was shortly raised to $5,000; as per the terms of the initial agreement and he never had to pay anything out of pocket for inaccurate picks.

Due to his typical victory rate of 70 to 80%, the now disgraced NBA referee estimated to the FBI that Tim Donaghy earned roughly $30,000 in total for providing information to the bookmakers.

Before leaving, find out if Scott Foster was really involved with Tim Donaghy.
