Ozark: Who Is the Rapper Ruth Talks To? Conversation on Rap Music and Rapping Legend, Nas!

Ruth talks to a rapper in the first episode of Netflix's Ozark Season 4 Part 2 and viewers wonder who he is. She even talks about rap music and other legends, including Nas. Well, the rapper she talks to is Killer Mike who is one-half of the rap group, Run The Jewels. Go through the article to know what Rith and the rapper talk about.

Ozark, a Netflix original series created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, debuted in 2017 and exposed viewers to a captivating world of tightly-wound tension. The season finale has arrived, bringing an end to a crime thriller that has been praised as one of the greatest shows on the platform. On the other side, we witness Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) face one of her most difficult tasks yet before the episode ends.

A real-life rapper makes a surprise appearance in Ozark season 4, episode 8, The Cousin of Death. Ruth Langmore has been firmly established as old-school hip-hop, a devout, dyed-in-the-wool admirer of the art of 90s boom-bap and rap from the first season of Ozark.

When Ruth travels to Chicago in the first episode of Ozark season 4 part 2, she encounters a rapper who is not just any rapper, but one of her rap favorites. And some fans wonder who the rapper is and more details about him. Well, we've got you covered.

Previously, we touched on Tuck from Ozark and Tommy Pelphrey. Likewise, we discussed the terrible ending.

Who Is the Rapper Ruth Talks to in Netflix’s Ozark Season 4 Part 2?

Ruth approaches the rapper awkwardly inside a diner and tells him she's a fan. The rapper immediately thanks to her. The rapper takes Ruth's earphones and listens to Nas' N.Y. State of Mind.  Ruth expresses her opinion that the music appears to love and despise the subject of his song, and the rapper agrees.

When Ruth asks the rapper if he believes that Nas would rather not make the record than go through all of those situations, the rapper blows the questions aside before shifting the conversation's focus.

Killer Mike, one half of the rap group Run The Jewels and a notable social activist, is the rapper for Ozark season 4 part 2. Killer Mike, also known as Michael Santiago Render, uses music and public protests to emphasize social concerns such as police brutality, institutional racism, and socioeconomic injustice.

Killer Mike has also given talks at universities and written extensively on these topics. He is regarded in the hip-hop community for not just speaking truth to power, but also doing the walk at every chance. It's no surprise that Ruth likes Killer Mike's music.

Although Killer Mike's presence in Ozark is more low-key than most other famous cameos in movies and TV shows, it is on-brand for the show, as Killer Mike's Ozark cameo serves as a reminder to Ruth that she is in the real world.

Ruth hallucinates killing Javi and even Wendy and Marty Byrde throughout Ozark season 4, episode 8, still upset by Wyatt's death, until she murders Javi in reality. Furthermore, Killer Mike's presence provides Ruth with someone with whom she can truly talk about rap, providing a little break from Ruth's grief over Wyatt, with whom she also talked music.

Who Is Ruth Listening to When She Meets the Rapper?

In season 4 episode 8, Ruth is listening to Nas' album Illmatic. Several songs from the album are included in the episode, including N.Y. State of Mind, which is played multiple times.

Illmatic, Nas' debut studio album, was released in 1994 and is widely considered one of the best and most influential hip hop albums ever recorded, consistently appearing on best-of lists.

The lyrics explore themes of poverty, violence, and gang rivalry, and are based on the rapper's actual experiences growing up in Queens, New York City.

In this episode, she meets rapper Killer Mike, who is most known for his solo work and as part of the hip hop group Run the Jewels. He inquires as to what Ruth is listening to, and the two briefly debate Illmatic's timeless power.
