Who Does Ari End up With in Surviving Summer? Are Ari and Summer Related to Each Other?

Arin Gibson (played by actor Kai Lewins) does not end up with anybody at the end of Netflix's Surviving Summer. He definitely liked Summer Torres (played by Sky Katz), however, the duo didn't get together and departed their home after sharing a kiss in the final scene of the show. Moreover, just because Summer went to live with Ari's parents in Australia doesn't mean they are related to each other and they're definitely not cousins. Follow the article to know more about Ari Gibson and if Netflix has renewed the show for Season 2.

Netflix's Surviving Summer, a teen drama series, is focused on the lead character, Summer Torres, played by Sky Katz. The stubborn Brooklyn teen is forced to transfer to Shorehaven, Victoria, Australia, and live with family friends on the other side of the world after getting expelled from two schools.

Created by the duo of Josh Mapleston and Joanna Werner, Surviving Summer is a simple show that depicts Summer's different ups and downs as she navigates life in her own rebellious manner. Throughout its first season, the narrative is spiced with humor while dealing with certain true-to-life issues such as settling in a new town, falling in love, and surfing.

Another character who has captivated viewers' attention is Ari Gibson. He is certainly charming but mentally disturbed as well. Moreover, fans wonder who Ari ends up with at the end of the show. Let's find it out.

Previously, we touched on the cast and Season 2.

How Does Netflix’s Surviving Summer End up for Ari? Do Summer and Ari Get Together?

Summer isn't fond of the seaside town of Shorehaven, nor of the people who live there, least of all the family she's staying with, especially their surfer son Ari Gibson, whom she considers a loser. She meets Poppy and Bodhi immediately and begins to rub off Ari, who is a stickler for the rules.

Summer's journey is connected with Ari's, who is in many ways her polar opposite. A surfer who has been sidelined due to an avoidable accident and is growing hatred toward his controlling parents and friends who he believes abandoned him in his time of need.

Ari's passion for surfing and determination to succeed in the sport define him, as does his relationship with his worried parents. He feels caged in, but he learns to prioritize himself, set aside differences, and go for what he wants, even if a last-minute romance after pulling out of one earlier seems ill-advised for his growth.

Marlon, who was present when Ari was injured and chose not to jump off a cliff with his friend, instead of leaving him to do so alone, represents the self-serving jerk stereotype that is prevalent in scenarios like this.

While surfing and competition seem to be visible in Surviving Summer, as previously stated, the show is primarily about the characters and their relationships, which is why Ari leaving the competition to find Summer before she leaves is representative of the show's underlying issues, especially after she helped him through his panic attacks.

Their departure isn't a happy or simple one, but it's a statement about how they've learned to grow and thrive on their own, and to take charge of their own lives.

Therefore, Ari does not end up with anybody at the end of the show. However, we're certain he is attached to Summer and so is Summer. The couple has a high chance of getting back together if Netflix decides to renew for its second season.

Additionally, the Australian actor, Kai Lewins (@kailewins), plays the role of Ari Gibson in the series. Kai was born on November 27th, 2001, and is 20 years old as of 2022. Kai Lewins, despite his young age, has more than a decade of acting experience, having debuted in 2011 in the Australian series, Wild Boys.

Will There Be Season 2 of Surviving Summer?

Netflix's Surviving Summer has not been renewed for season 2 at the time of this writing. However, given the finale, this is maybe unsurprising.

Before renewing a show, Netflix considers a variety of factors, including how many people watched the first season and the drop-off rate per episode. Some shows receive swift cancellations or renewals (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars). Other times, Netflix may take months to make a decision about a show's future.

Surviving Summer has had a mixed response from reviewers thus far, but a generally positive response from audiences. If the streaming platform does decide to renew it, there are plenty of possibilities.

Summer may return to meet Ari and the gang, or Ari could fly to New York to check how Summer has adjusted. Not only that, but the supporting characters might have their own spin-offs or storylines to follow.

For the time being, we're assuming there won't be a season 2, but we'll try to keep this page updated as new information becomes available.
