Denny Cutler arrives in Virgin River and introduces himself as Vernon Mullins' grandson. He initially showed up in Season 3's finale. And he shows up at Doc's door in episode 1 of season 4 to reveal surprising information.
Denny Cutler tells that he is Rose Miller's grandson, a woman that Doc dated in college before calling it quits when Vernon left for medical school. After learning that he had a son, Doc is immediately informed by Denny that the boy recently passed away. Ryan Cutler was Denny's father and Doc's son. Denny's desire to look for his grandfather was inspired by his passing, which explains his unexpected appearance in Virgin River.
Doc had been informed that Rose had passed away decades earlier, but Denny discloses that she is still alive despite the fact that both of his parents have passed away; his father died barely a month ago and his mother died when he was a young child.
It doesn't take Doc long to tell the Virgin River residents that he has a grandchild. Doc introduces Denny to Lizzie, and the two get along right away. Denny makes for a lovely introduction, but Muriel warns Doc to be wary of the newcomer's motives because not everything about him is as it seems. He believes Denny, sometimes, acts strange and has a secret motive.
Denny pushes Lizzie away and makes an effort to keep her at a distance despite the fact that they clearly enjoy one another. Mel witnesses him breaking into the clinic's medicine cupboard in episode 5 of Season 4. Later in the season, after Lizzie discovers a bottle of clonazepam (aka Klonopin) in his drawer that is prescribed for someone else, suspicions about Denny continue to grow.
We see that Denny also finds files with the financial data for the clinic after Hope persuaded him to move in with her and Doc. Following Muriel's warning about Laney Baxter, who invited a niece over and scammed her out of money, it appears that everything is happening once more. especially when we witness Denny go to the bank and deposit a sizable amount of cash.
However, we later learn that Denny Cutler wants to make a difference before his time is up since he has Huntington's disease, a fatal condition. Huntington's disease is a degenerative disorder that gradually impairs the function of certain areas of the brain. It is typically passed down from one's parents, as Denny most certainly did from his father.
Lizzie discovered a bottle of clonazepam (commercially known as Klonopin), which Denny's father used to alleviate his symptoms. The medication was initially prescribed to him. Denny's illness is the cause of his persistent pushing away of Lizzie since he doesn't want to damage her as his condition worsens. Hence, he is not a bad guy in the series. His health condition is the reason why he acts strange.
