Finding Ola, as of now, has not been renewed for Season 2. Since Netflix for Arabic contents is looking for diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity, and focusing on expanding the role of female creators, there's a bigger possibility of Finding Ola returning for Season 2. But, we can't exactly say for sure.
Finding Ola is an Egyptian comedy-drama that follows Ola, a family-oriented woman nearing her forties as she tries to find her individuality after she is divorced and left behind to fend for herself by her husband.
All six episodes of Finding Ola were released on Netflix on February 3, 2022. The show stars Hend Sabry, Hany Adel, Sawsan Badr, Nada Moussa, and Mahmoud Ellisy.
By now, fans have already binge-watched all the episodes and are probably waiting for another season. But has it been renewed for another season or have we seen the last of Finding Ola in a single season?
Is There Going to be a Season 2 of Finding Ola?
We don't know yet. It's too early to tell. So far, there's no announcement of the renewal of the second season of Finding Ola. But it's been only a few days since the series premiered on Netflix. For now, we can only speculate if Netflix is going to order Season 2 of the drama.
For that, it's important to note that Netflix in Arabic-speaking countries is flourishing with its edgy originals.
And as this Egyptian series is about a woman discovering her identity of her own outside her husband after getting separated from him while battling the traditional patriarchal views that her mother tries to impose on her and there is a wave of liberal feminism hitting the Middle East Region, Finding Ola has a possibility to be a super hit.
As per Variety, Nuha Eltayeb - Netflix’s director of acquisitions in MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and Turkey, has said that authentic and representative content that can create an impact on the viewers is what they are looking for.
And in a region that is only starting to slowly open up to the idea of shedding patriarchal norms to give existential liberty and space to women, what could be more impactful than a story of a woman repurposing her life for herself and by herself post-divorce.
Ahmed Sharkawi, Netflix’s director of the Arabic Series, has pointed out they are looking for diversity of genre, inclusivity, representation of culture, and authenticity in the content for West Asia.
He also added that the streaming giant in the Arabic region has been focusing on amplifying and expanding the role of female creators in the industry, be it as stars in front of the camera or behind the cameras.
Since Finding Ola is a show that was proposed to Netflix by Hend Sabri which she has starred in as well as produced, there might be a higher chance of the show returning for another second on the streamer.
If Renewed for Season 2, What Could Be the New Storyline for Finding Ola?
Finding Ola revolves around Ola who faces an existential crisis after her husband decides to divorce her. She takes it hard initially but later manages to take control of her life by establishing a brand for handmade creams called Second Chance.
The series ends with imagery of Ola standing on the boat alone with the city of Cairo in the background, which pretty much signifies that Ola is now a confident independent woman who has realized her worth.
Since Finding Ola ends on such a powerful note with Ola finding herself, it could be viewed as a happy ending with nothing left to follow through to warrant Season 2. But, there are some things that the drama could expand on.
Ola rejects her ex-husband Hisham when he proposes to get back together after he suffers a heart attack. Ola, despite having developed feelings, has refrained from getting with him because of the circumstances.
For next season, the show could explore how Ola's mother - a very traditional woman who has taught her to not reflect internal struggles outside for the sake of family, is going to react to Ola's refusal to reconcile with her ex-husband. She had advised Ola to beg Hisham to take her back.
The series can also touch on how Ola is going to navigate her love life- how she is going to co-parent her children with her former husband who wants to get back together while she has started to develop feelings for another man.
