Charlie Heaton (@charlie.r.heaton) was born to Shelly Lowe and Crispy Heaton in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, on February 6, 1994. Charlie is British by nationality and English by ethnicity. The Stranger Things cast also has a sister named Levi Heaton who is an actress. He moved to London when he was 16 years old to pursue a music career.

At the age of 16, Charlie joined the London noise-rock band Comanechi as the drummer, beginning his career as a musician. He really was very passionate about music, however, his music career didn't last for long.

In 2015, Charlie Heaton made his acting debut as Gary McCready in the ITV series DCI Banks. He made an appearance as Riley in Vera that same year. Charlie also portrayed Michael Stevens in the 2015 short film The Schoolboy. Later that year, he played Jason Waycott in the medical drama Casualty on BBC One.

Heaton's breakthrough role was as Jonathan Byers in the Netflix supernatural drama series Stranger Things. While the first season premiered in July 2016 to positive reviews, the fourth season, which is the most current, was released in 2022. He also has received a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for his part in the show.

Charlie Heaton played the lead in the 2017 psychological horror movie Marrowbone. Heaton was chosen to play Samuel "Sam" Guthrie/Cannonball in the May of that year's The New Mutants movie, which was adapted from the same Marvel Comics comic book. The movie, which was filmed in 2017, was released in 2020.

The BBC revealed in August 2018 that Heaton would play Joseph Merrick, also known as the Elephant Man, in a brand-new two-part drama. A disability charity group criticized the casting, arguing that it was a squandered chance to not use a disabled actor. It was ultimately not produced.
