When he met Jeffrey Dahmer, Christopher Scarver was already serving a life term at the Columbia Correctional Institute in Wisconsin for the murder of his supervisor. Christopher, Anderson, and Dahmer had been on a regular work detail at the prison gym on November 28, 1994. Scarver beat both Dahmer and Anderson to death while they were left alone for twenty minutes.
Around 8:10 a.m., Dahmer was discovered beaten and bleeding on the gym's bathroom floor. After being taken to the hospital immediately, he was declared dead an hour later. Christopher Scarver also said that he was poked in the back before attacking Dahmer and Anderson. He said, "I turned around, and [Dahmer] and Jesse were kind of laughing under their breath. I looked right into their eyes, and I couldn’t tell which had done it."
Scarver, who allegedly sang as he entered the courtroom, informed the investigators that the attack was not planned in advance. He said that all he was doing was simply submitting to the will of God and that he was simply a tool used by the spirit. Some have also suggested that the racial overtones of Dahmer's and Anderson's actions served as the trigger for Scarver's rage.
While Anderson attempted to place the blame for his wife's death on two black men, the majority of Dahmer's victims were people of color. Christopher Scarver, himself a black guy, must have been furious at their behavior. But there is no evidence to support this notion. He continued, "I would need a good attorney to ensure there would not be any retaliation by Wisconsin officials or to get me out of any type of retaliatory position they would put me in."
