Meet Zulema Pastenes, the Wife of Alex Cox: Texts, Immunity, Daughter, Son, Husbands & Ethnicity; Reddit Update!

Zulema Pastenes was Lori Vallow's friend from the LDS Church before she became the wife of Alex Cox. She already had a son named Joseph Lopez and a daughter named Cara Onofryton from the marriage with her previous husbands. However, her ethnicity is yet to be revealed. Additionally, some Reddit users are also interested to know about the texts which she and Alex had before the disappearance of Tylee and JJ. As of now, Zulema Pastenes is living a normal life in Gilbert, Arizona, with an immunity agreement in exchange for her testimony.

The Netflix original documentary series Sins of Our Mother can only be characterized as equal parts confusing, devastating, and captivating. It lives up to its title from every conceivable viewpoint. That's because it sheds light on all of Lori Valllow Daybell's numerous alleged offenses while also charting her personal and familial ties as she descended into religious extremism.

Lori Vallow was once seen as a sweet, kind, and loving mother of three, but her religious radicalism actually changed everything beginning in the late 2010s. That's because she allegedly murdered two of her young children, Tylee and JJ, as a result of drifting into the dark path of apocalyptic paranoia alongside her fifth husband, Chad Guy Daybell.

Zulema Pastes is one of the very few people who were very close to Lori. Zulema, initially Lori's friend, later got married to Alex Cox, Lori's younger brother. Let's know everything about Zulema Pastenes and how is she related to this case right below.

Previously, we touched on Janis Cox and Lori Vallow's kids.

Zulema Pastenes Is the Wife of Lori Vallow’s Brother, Alex Cox, Who Already Had a Son and a Daughter Before Their Marriage: Texts, Immunity, Husbands, Reddit & Ethnicity!

Zulema Pastenes, an enthusiastic member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), first connected with Lori through the organization's local Arizona branch before the two rapidly became friends. She quickly enlisted in Chad's religious apocalyptic organization as a result, and it was there that she is said to have met Lori's brother Alexander "Alex" Cox, who shared the same beliefs as Lori.

By this time, the then-single mother had already received a blessing from Chad declaring that she would get married again, which unintentionally made her sensitive to the proposal that he and Lori freely offered. Yes, Zulema Pastenes had a daughter named Cara Onofryton before she met Alex probably with one of her ex-husbands. In the docuseries, she explained,

[Chad and Lori explained that] in order for people to finish their mission [in this world], they always had to have somebody that was going to be equal in their spirituality and equal to them. So then they started saying, ‘Alex will be a part of that for you. He will be the person who will be able to help you with your mission.’… I was praying, and I was asking, and I just got this feeling that ‘Okay, I think it’s time for me to marry him.'

So, on November 29, 2019, Alex and Zulema got married in Las Vegas, and he immediately took her last name. Unfortunately, Zulema Pastenes lost Alex on December 12, 2019, a little over two weeks after becoming his wife. He was discovered unconscious in the bathtub of their Gilbert, Arizona home. Zulema's son, Joseph Lopez, called  9-1-1 and reported Cox's death. Yes, she had a son as well.

She was later questioned by the local police, who mostly did so because of Lori's situation. According to sources, she considerably downplayed their entire relationship.

After the death of Alex as well as every charge Lori was facing, the police started an investigation on Zulema Pastenes as well. Luckily, we do have a glimpse at their exchanged texts as a Reddit user has posted it on the platform. Zulema reportedly faced pressure from Chad and Lori to move her and her husband to their base in Rexburg, Idaho, but she kept her ground and is now glad she did. She told detectives,

I now [see] that they had a real nefarious plan to do something to me or Alex or that we were the final piece to move to Rexburg, and by the grace of God, I didn’t move there. I dodged a bullet by not moving to Rexburg… I ask myself whether these people are insane or they’re just led by evil.

Despite everything, Zulema Pastenes is convinced that she and Alex were in love. Zulema is currently still living in Gilbert, Arizona, where she wants to stay out of the spotlight, according to what we know about her whereabouts. Obviously, she has an immunity agreement in exchange for her testimony. Additionally, her ethnicity is yet to be revealed. We'll get back to you as soon as we get any updates from our sources.

Additionally, Sins of Our Mother is streaming on Netflix.
