Tisha Michelle Campbell (@tishacampbellmartin) was born on October 13, 1968. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but was raised in East Orange, New Jersey, where she attended the Washington Academy of Music, as well as Newark, New Jersey, where she attended Newark Arts High School.
Mona Shockley, also known as Mona Washington, was her mother and a gospel singer, vocal instructor, talent manager, and nurse. Clifton Campbell, her father, worked as a factory worker and vocalist in addition to coaching underprivileged kids in chess on both the east and west coasts.
