What Is Bonida in Grace and Frankie? ‘Bonita Drug’ and ‘Boniva’ Medicine Prescription!

The eight-episode of Netflix's Grace and Frankie titled The Bonida Bandidas features a drug, Bonida, for which they travel across the border of Mexico. The medicine was supposed to cure Arlene alongside other elder residents. Fans seek more information about what 'Bonita' drug prescription is and if 'Boniva' actually is a medicine.

Grace and Frankie have been introducing us to its drama and chaos for the past seven years. The show introduced viewers to real-life friends Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin's strong on-screen friendship. After seven years, Netflix finally released the final episodes of Season 7, which also is the final season.

The series Grace and Frankie, written by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, has captivated audiences with its emotions, friendship, conflict, and love for one other. It is one of Netflix's longest-running shows, with 94 episodes, about two women who used to hate each other but became closest friends after their husbands left. Both women become each other's support systems.

The two best friends are the modern-day equivalents of single women who can do everything they set their minds to. However, in the final season, Grace notices Frankie's stockpile of Bonida prescriptions and fans wonder what it is.

Previously, we touched on Coyote's girlfriend, June Diane Raphael's net worth, Barry's baby, Geoffrey, and the weight gain of Christine Woods and Baron Vaughn.

‘Bonita Drug’ and ‘Boniva’ Medicine Prescription: What Is Bonida in Netflix’s Grace and Frankie?

With the comedy focusing on the activities of two ladies in their seventies, there will undoubtedly be a lot of medical jargon that younger audiences will be unfamiliar with. Grace and Frankie join a new criminal realm in the final season when they start smuggling Bonida.

The eighth episode of Grace and Frankie Season 7, The Bonida Bandidas, shows the two titular women attempting to smuggle cocaine out of Mexico. In the episode, Grace (Fonda) found Frankie's (Tomlin) stockpile of Bonida prescriptions, or "a s***load of Bonida prescription slips", as Grace describes it.

Dr. Ramirez suggests the drug for Arlene (Marsha Mason), so Grace and Frankie visit him in Mexico. Frankie returns to Walden Villas to find that many of the older residents require Bonida prescriptions. Grace and Frankie fly to Mexico in order to sneak Bonida across the border with the medication for the Walden Villas inhabitants.

In episode 7, Frankie says, "It may be drug smuggling, but it's righteous smuggle." The scheme of the Bonida Bandidas is disrupted when Dr. Ramirez's wife informs border authorities about the couple.

Grace and Bonida make it across the border, but Frankie has a difficult time and becomes (unintentionally) involved in another drug smuggling operation.

However, Bonida, or as many fans call it, Bonita, is not an actual drug, although it is comparable to Boniva medicine. According to WebMD, Boniva is used to prevent and treat some forms of bone loss (osteoporosis). Given that both medications are used to cure bone loss, it's possible that Grace and Frankie are referring to the same prescription.

Here Is Why Grace and Frankie Ending After Season Seven

Fans are troubled by the fact that the recent episodes were the final chapter of both Grace Hanson and Frankie Bergstein. Co-creator Martha Kaufman informed the Los Angeles Times about the show's end after season seven. She said,

It was a combination of things. Netflix isn't doing long-term series anymore. And we are really lucky that we got the seventh season. I think when we started, we imagined seven seasons. But, really, this is the kind of decision that comes from Netflix. But as sad as I am that it’s ending, there’s something that makes sense about it.

According to Forbes, Jeff Greenfield, the Chief Attribution Officer at C3 Metrics, argued that the vast number of alternatives available on streaming platforms may have contributed to the show's death.

Jane and Lily issued a joint statement on the announcement that Grace and Frankie Season 7 would be the show's final in 2020, stating, "We are both delighted and heartbroken that Grace & Frankie will be back for its seventh, though final, season.
