Yasmin Finney's Gender: Is Elle from Heartstopper Trans in Real Life?

Yasmin Finney, who plays the role of Elle Argent in Netflix's Heartstopper, is openly trans in real life. As Elle is a transgender girl in the show, fans were curious to know about Yasmin's gender. Moreover, the 18-year-old star has been sharing her journey about being a trans girl, especially on TikTok. Fans wonder how she feels to portray the role of Elle at her age. Go through the article to know more about Yasmin Finney's gender.

Despite the fact that Netflix's brand-new series Heartstopper is about the high school romance between Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and rugby star Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), we can't help but think of Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney). Elle plays an important role in the overall tale as one of Charlie's best friends, and viewers observe that she is dealing with her own set of problems at school. Elle has officially transferred to Higgs, an all-girls school, after years of attending Truham.

Yasmin Finney is just 18 years old, and despite past roles in stage works such as DNA, Port, and Antigone, Heartstopper is her first television show. Now that Elle is a trans character, we have to ask if the actress who plays her, Yasmin Finney, is trans as well. Here is everything we know about her gender.

Previously, we touched on Kit Connor's gay rumors and dating life. Likewise, we looked at Joe Locke's sexuality and relationship with Sebastian Croft.

Yasmin Finney Gender Revealed: Is Yasmin Finney Who Plays The Role Of  'Elle' in Netflix's Heartstopper Trans In Real Life?

Yasmin Finney is a newcomer to the entertainment industry, like her co-star Joe Locke, who plays the empathic and kindhearted, Charlie Spring. Despite having been in a number of theatrical shows, Heartstopper was her first on-screen acting role, however, the 18-year-old is quickly becoming one of the transgender community's most important leaders.

Finney plays the role of Elle who has a difficult time making friends at her new school. However, Tao Xu, played by William Gao, keeps her informed about the friend group. Elle and Tao begin to spend more time together as the series continues. Beyond being closest friends, Elle begins to view Tao in a different way.

Tao is blissfully unaware of the reality, but he gradually discovers how significant she is to him. Heartstopper explores another LGBTQ relationship, and fans are curious to understand why Finney and Gao were astounded when they heard their characters' names called out by the cast.

Therefore, viewers wanted to know if Finney is trans just like her character in the series. Unlike Kit Connor and Joe Locke, Finney was cast in the teen drama because of her real-life personality.

Yes! Yasmin Finney is a trans in real life as well. Yasmin told LGBTQ magazine Attitude that finding an open casting call for a transgender girl of color was unexpected she didn't have many characters to look up to where she felt represented as a Black trans woman.

However, this once-in-a-lifetime chance allowed Yasmin to offer much-needed representation and concentrate on the impact of her on-screen presence on others. During a roundtable talk with PinkNews, Yasmin said she feels very blessed to be playing Elle. She added,

"It really, really, really is such a rare story that we get a trans character that doesn’t delve into gender dysphoria, or depression, or bullying, but just the positive — the friendship, the chosen family, the moving from an all boys’ school to an all girls’ school."

Moreover, Yasmin has been a popular figure on Instagram (@yazdemand) and TikTok since late 2020. As of April 2022, her account has over 861,000 followers and 910.5 million likes on Tiktok. Yasmin usually talks about her experiences growing up as a trans woman in Manchester, with her most popular video focusing on the tragic transphobic conduct she's seen from potential romantic partners. However, Yasmin's page has recently accumulated millions of views thanks to a video featuring the Heartstopper cast.

Therefore, this is truly a defining moment for the trans community, and we believe and hope that other studio and casting directors in the entertainment industry will take notes from the great team behind Heartstopper.
