While Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix is based on actual events and real-life individuals, it is not always historically accurate. Historical dramas continue to remain popular with viewers, and Vikings is one of the most popular TV shows from that genre in recent years.
Vikings, a History Channel series created by Michael Hirst, started in 2013 and ran for six seasons, ending in 2021 after many wars, betrayals, and shocks.
Many strong female characters appear in Vikings: Valhalla, including one based on the real-life Freydis Eriksdottir. She is Leif Erikson's sister, Erik the Red's daughter, and a capable shield-maiden who can look after herself.
However, as with most of Valhalla's sloppy historical accuracy, there are certain crucial elements regarding Freydis that are left out.

Leif Erikson's Sister Freydis' True Story: Much Different from Vikings Valhalla!
Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett) from the historical series Vikings: Valhalla is almost unrecognizable in comparison to his real-life self, and his sister Freydis Eriksdotter suffers from the same fate.
According to the sagas she is mentioned in, Erik the Red's daughter was a force to be reckoned with, but such tales are noticeably absent from the show.
Per the Greenlanders' Saga, Freydis traveled to Vinland with two men, Helgi and Finnbogi, with whom she had struck a deal to split any gold acquired during the voyage.
After Freydis, Helgi and Finnbogi had several conflicts, Freydis told her husband, who is not one of the characters in Vikings: Valhalla, that the two men had beaten her and that he should kill them in her place, which he did.
When he refused to slaughter the camp's women, she grabbed up an ax and killed them herself. Her relationship with her brother, Leif, was problematic as a consequence of her deeds and unorthodox lifestyle, which was not the case in Valhalla.
Freydis is said to have traveled to Vinland on an expedition only to be attacked by a group of natives, according to the Saga of Erik the Red. The other Vikings retreat, but Freydis holds strong, pushing the natives back despite being eight months pregnant.
The timeline for Vikings: Valhalla does not appear to include this story in any way. Instead, Freydis' voyage in the show is started by a Christian Viking's sexual attack on her.
Given the ruthlessness with which many Vikings treated individuals they deemed outsiders at the period, it's not impossible that this occurred to Freydis, although it's not addressed in any of the sagas where she is mentioned.
Who Plays Leif Erikson's Sister Freydis Eriksdotter in Vikings: Valhalla?
Frida Gustavsson (@fridagustavsson), a Swedish actress, plays Freydis Eriksdotter. Despite the fact that Gustavsson has a significant role in Vikings: Valhalla, the 28-year-old actress hasn't had much of an on-screen career prior to this. Gustavsson's career has relied on working as a model for much of her life.
Frida initially made the cover of German Vogue in 2010, and a year later, she earned Elle Sweden's Model of the Year award, hitting the cover of yet another high-profile fashion publication. Gustavsson participated in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2012, one of many runway appearances she has made.
Gustavsson looks to have got the acting bug after starring in Eugenio Recuenco's short film in 2013. Gustavsson has only been featured in a total of 12 non-Vikings-related productions in the years since all of which have been Swedish productions.
Gustavsson's brief presence in Season 1 of Netflix's The Witcher is likely to be remembered by American television viewers.
Despite the fact that she has only appeared in one episode of the fantasy series thus far, her brief appearance is significant. Gustavsson appears in flashbacks as Visenna, Geralt of Rivia's mother, in Season 1, Episode 8 ("Much More").
Outside of Netflix, Gustavsson has appeared in Swedish TV shows like Partisan, De utvalda, The Inspector and the Sea, and Dröm, as well as a few Swedish movies like Swoon from 2019 and Tigers from 2020.
