Rome Flynn's Parents & Ethnicity: Meet His Mother, Siblings & Family!

Rome Flynn's only parent figure is his mother Nickey Alexander, who raised him and his seven siblings single-handedly through thick and thin without ever complaining. Rome has never spoken of who his father is. As for his ethnicity, Rome Flynn mentions in his Instagram bio that he is Afro-Cuban. Netflix viewers wonder about the parents, brothers, and family of the Raising Dion star.

The release of the new season of Raising Dion has brought another person into the spotlight, Rome Flynn.

The new Netflix alum is an American actor, model, and musician, who is mostly known as Zende from The Bold and The Beautiful. He is also recognized for playing a law student Gabriel in the ABC drama How to Get Away with Murder.

After appearing in Raising Dion, he has got a new set of admirers who are wondering where he gets his good looks from, and who are his parents.

Previously, we touched on Season 3, Kwame, Molly Noriko Hurley, Nicole, and Alisha Wainwright's husband.

Who are Rome Flynn's Parents?

Rome Flynn (@romeflynn) was born on November 25, 1991, in Chicago to Nickey Alexander. Nickey Alexander is his mother.

There is no information about his father because Rome Flynn has never spoken about who his dad is. As far as he is concerned, about his parents, his only parent is his mother.

Rome Flynn had one of the classic and forever romanticized 'rags-to-riches' stories. He literally grew up with nothing and went on to have everything he has now. And it was all because of his mother. Having gone through thick and thin with his mother, he is very close and affectionate with her.

After Rome was born, his family moved to Springfield in Illinois. The family was practically homeless in a new city then. Their situation was such bad that they had a car for a home.

They moved to a local shelter soon afterward. Rome had seven siblings. His mother single-handedly raised all those kids under a roof with no help from anyone.

So, Rome Flynn is filled with nothing but gratitude and love for his mother. He occasionally posts heartwarming posts dedicated to his mother on his Instagram handle.

On the other hand, his father he never mentions. It looks like he and his family were abandoned by his father when he was a child. So, he wants nothing to do with his father.

What is Rome Flynn's Ethnicity?

As Rome Flynn's Instagram bio mentions, he has African and Cuban heritage.

Seeing how he ignores the existence of his father, there is a possibility he might be mentioning just his mother's ethnicity. He is also said to have Irish and Somali heritage.

How Did Rome Flynn Get Into Acting?

Rome Flynn got a rather filmy start to the acting industry. He kind of built his stock in social media by developing his talent as a social media personality and racking up followers, which got him on the radar of casting directors.

And he got his debut in the television movie Drumline: A New Beat which was a sequel to the 2002 film Drumline in the spring of 2014.

In May 2015, Rome got the breakthrough role that gained him popularity and prominence when he was cast in the CBS daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful for portraying the role of Zende Forrester Dominguez.

This role did not just get him popularity but it also earned him the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series three years later in 2018.

In 2015, he also did a Christmas-themed photo shoot with his daughter Kimiko for CBS Soaps In Depth.

In November 2016, he got cast in the movie adaptation of the novel TEN written by Gretchen Mcneil opposite China Anne McClain. Next year in 2017, Rome Flynn made appearances in some episodes of the CBS crime dramas NCIS: New Orleans and MacGyver as a guest star.

The same year, he joined the cast of OWN's The Haves and the Have Nots, and he removed himself from The Bold and the Beautiful after two years with the series.

In 2018, he appeared as Gabriel Maddox in the season 4 finale of How to Get Away with Murder, and was promoted to a series regular for the next season.

Almost three years later, on February 23, 2021, it was announced that Rome Flynn was cast to play the role of Tevin Wakefield in the Netflix series Raising Dion for its second season.

On the same day, it came out that Rome had secured a recurring role as David in the fourth and final season of Justin Simien's Dear White People, another Netflix series. He also joined the cast of Gloria Calderon Kellett's With Love.
