The Witcher Season 2: Meet Vesemir Actor Kim Bodnia!

The popular Killing Eve actor, Kim Bodnia has recently graced the OTT screen with his presence as Vesemir, the oldest witcher in The Witcher Season 2. The actor seems to be in a blissful marital relationship with Rikke Louise Andersson. He shares three children Charlie Bodnia, Nomi Bodnia, and Miles Bodnia with his wife. He also has a son Louis Bodnia Anderson with his first wife Lotte Andersen. The details about his first marriage are shrouded in mystery.

The Witcher alum Kim Bodnia is a Danish writer, actor, and director. He started gaining wide recognition after he played the role of a police detective Martin Rohde in the Scandinavian crime drama series The Bridge.

He also played the lead in Nicolas Winding Refn's 1996 directorial debut Pusher achieved became internationally known for portraying Konstantin in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's 2018 BBC America spy thriller TV series Killing Eve.

Kim Bodnia has earned the 62nd Bodil Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2009 and he was also awarded the Monte-Carlo Television Festival Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. The actor was also honored with a British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Killing Eve.

The owner of numerous awards has recently joined one of the most popular shows on Netflix, The Witcher Season 2 as Vesemir. The Netflix show has been available for streaming from December 17, 2021.

Just as Adjoa Andoh's Nenneke, the newly introduced character Vesemir has got the fans excited for what's coming as the character seems to share a very meaningful relationship with the show's main lead.

Kim Bodnia as Vesemir in The Witcher Season 2

The Witcher 2 is the latest project that Kim Bodnia has worked on. In this project, the actor is seen playing the role of Vesemir, the oldest and the most experienced witcher at Kaer Morhen, the mountain fortress where Witchers live and train.

It can be expected that the audience can take a deeper dive into the world that The Witcher is set in by following the character provided that Vesemir turns out to be one of the oldest Witchers still living, who might possess a critical knowledge that the other witchers do not.

As Vesemir also happens to be the mentor of Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill, the viewers can expect Kim Bodnia to be sharing most of his screen time with Cavill.

Their paths cross again when Geralt and Ciri,  portrayed by Freya Allen reach Kaer Morhen. Since Vesemir is a father figure to Geralt, the older Witcher may also help protect Ciri, as the Nilfgaardian army isn’t likely to stop searching for her.

Vesemir seems to have been a very convenient and fun role for Kim Bodnia to play since the character integrates nature into his life and personality, and Kim has said that he 'believes in nature.'

The actor has shared that depicting the character in The Witcher had been incredible as 'it had been like a healing process to have the knowledge about how important respect for nature is.'

Speaking of the on-screen relationship of Geralt and Vesemir, the oldest witcher seems to play a pivotal role to help the monster slayer in times of crisis.

The Continent seems to be running out of the witchers and creation is not a possibility. Geralt is the only hope for the future but he does not seem to know much about what is going on, which is where Vesemir fits in.

Kim Bodnia is the first one to bring into life the first live version of Vesemir. The audiences are not entirely unfamiliar with the character as a recent animated movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf gave fans a glimpse into his life before becoming Geralt's teacher.

Kim Bodnia also noted how showrunner Lauren Hissrich enlisted him for his “emotional skills”. The actor said,

I was actually hired to get involved with Henry as this father figure, in the emotional stuff, because they were talking about you’re not allowed to show feelings so much as Witchers. Henry wanted to do that. So, I was like a father trying to open up a son’s pain and be like, ‘Of course, you have pain. Of course, you don’t understand why you have this intuitive way of living. But you have to believe in yourself even if you don’t have the answers.’

He added, "Through all that as a father figure, learning from and listening to his son was a very important thing for us to have together.”

On a side note, meet the Deathless Mother from Season 2.

Who is Kim Bodnia's Current Wife?

The Witcher actor Kim Bodnia was born on 12 April 1965 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Jewish actor with Russian and Polish ancestry might not have been a particularly good student but he seemed to be excelling at acting since joining the theatre group, as he earned himself a seat in the Danish National School of Theatre and Contemporary Dance.

The 5 foot 10 inches actor eventually went on to debut with the film En Afgrund Af Frihed as a bouncer in 1989. The 56-year-old actor boasts a long career since then.

The Danish actor is currently happily married to his wife Rikke Louise Andersson. Bodnia and Anderson got married in 2013. The couple is blessed with three children, Charlie Bodnia, Nomi Bodnia, and Miles Bodnia.

Talking about his past relationship, he was married to Lotte Andersen previously with whom he has a son, Louis Bodnia Andersen. He seems to have managed to keep his relationship private as there are no details regarding Kim Bodnia's marriage plus divorce from his first wife Andersen.
